Marilena Orfanou is a freelance musician, composer, singer and DJ, based in Athens Greece.
She studied Harmomy, Counterpoint, Fugue, Music Composition and Orchestration at the Atheneum International Cultural Centre (Atheneum Conservatory) and Sociology at Panteio University of Athens.
She is the founding member of the all female electropop, punk bands Berlin Brides and Someone Who Isn't Me. In 2015 she was commissioned by the Institut Francais D' Athenes to compose an original soundtrack for the Greek silent film Astero. The score was performed live by her newly then formed band Someone Who Isn't Me. Under the Alias Someone Who Isn't Me, Marilena wrote and performed the ending credits song for Athina Tsangari's Chevalier and then released her first LP Dance With You. The band got selected as a showcasing artist at the famous SXSW festival and then went on to tour in Europe. She has written music for both Cinema and Theater. Her latest theater collaboration was for the play Youthquake ,directed by Yiota Argiropoulou (Blind Spot), commissioned by the Athens & Epidaurus Festival She has written music for films collaborating with award winning director Athina Rachel Tsangari, on Attenberg, The Benaki Museum, Chevalier, 7 Seas and for the Costa Navarino promo short film. She also wrote music for Giorgos Georgopoulos’ films Tungsten and The Outcasts, for Georgis Grigorakis’ video essay for the Cycladic Museum and for the short film "Vathikofto" (Ioanna Kryona). In 2021 she composed the OST for the short film AMYGDALA (Trieste FIlm Fest, Tampere, PalmSprings Short Fest) and won the best Music Award at the 44th Drama Int'l Film Festival. The OST was released by United We Fly. She is currently composing the music for Maria Hatzakou's latest short Seven Hertz, Stavros Markoulaki's Pigeons are Dying when the City’s on Fire and finishing the production of Someone Who Isn't Me second album titled Heartbreaker. She is also a renowned DJ in the Athenian Underground Dance Scene and a a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
